Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The major indices moved lower over the last half hour. Small and mid cap stocks are underperforming their larger peers. The Russell 2000 sports a 1.2% decline and the S&P Mid Cap 400 trades 1.0% lower. 

The S&P 500 sports a 0.6% decline, sitting its low of the day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is on track for its ninth consecutive loss, trading 0.6% lower at present. 18 of the 30 Dow components trade lower and nine of the S&P 500 sectors show losses ranging from 0.2% (materials) to 1.3% (energy).

Market breadth also reflects broad participation in today's retreat. Advancers lead decliners by a better than 3-to-1 margin at the NYSE and by a better than 2-to-1 ratio at the Nasdaq.
