Energy shares and regional banks boost small cap index
Dow +59.45 at 44461.38, Nasdaq -5.66 at 19730.57, S&P -0.84 at 6052.01

[BRIEFING.COM] The small cap Russell 2000 trades 0.1% higher than yesterday.

Gains in regional bank shares and energy components have boosted the small cap index. Strength in these areas has also propelled the S&P 500 energy sector to trade 0.4% higher and the SPDR S&P Regional Bank ETF (KRE) to trade 1.3% higher.

Also, the S&P 500 financial sector shows a 0.3% gain.

The Russell 2000 has also benefitted from buy-the-dip interest after a soft start to the week.
