Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 trades just below the 6,000 level, reaching 5,998 at its high today. Small and mid cap stocks are coming along for upside moves. The Russell 2000 sports a 0.3% gain and the S&P Mid Cap 400 shows a 0.3% gain.

Market breadth is somewhat mixed, reflecting a lack of conviction from buyers or sellers after a big run in equities this week. Advancers lead decliners by a 3-to-2 margin at the NYSE while decliners are roughly even with advancers at the Nasdaq. 

S&P 500 sector performance is also mixed. Four of the 11 sectors trade lower led by materials (-0.9%) and communication services (-0.8%).
