[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones Industrial Average trade near their prior closing levels. There's not a lot of conviction on either side of the tape in early action ahead of a busy week. Advancers lead decliners by a 5-to-2 margin at the NYSE and decliners lead advancers by an 11-to-10 margin at the Nasdaq.
This week's calendar includes the US election on Tuesday, the FOMC policy announcement on Thursday, and a big batch of earnings through the week.
Mixed action in the mega cap space has contributed to the overall mixed vibe in the market. NVIDIA (NVDA 136.84, +1.43, +1.0%) and Apple (AAPL 222.03, -0.88, -0.4%) are influential names in the space moving in opposite directions.
S&P 500 sector performance has also been mixed thus far. The energy sector (+1.7%) leads the pack by a decent margin while the utilities sector (-1.4%) sports the largest decline.
Factory orders dropped 0.5% in September (Briefing.com consensus -0.4%) following a revised 0.8% decline in August (from 0.2%).
