[BRIEFING.COM] The major indices moved higher in recent trading. The market-cap weighted S&P 500 shows a 0.2% gain, propelled by relatively broad buying interest.
The equal-weighted S&P 500 sports a 1.0% gain and nine of the 11 S&P 500 sectors trade higher. The energy (+1.4%), industrial (+1.4%), financial (+1.2%), consumer staples (+1.2%), and utilities (+1.0%) sectors are each higher by 1.0% or more.
The communication services sectors is the worst performer by a big margin, down 2.6% since yesterday. Meta Platforms (META 557.89, -7.25, -1.3%) and Alphabet (GOOG 166.32, -11.00, -6.3%) are weighing down the sector. GOOG shares are down sharply after saying the DOJ "filed a staggering proposal that seeks dramatic changes to Google services," including forced sale of Chrome and potentially Android.
