Chipmakers continue to weigh down market
Dow -188.56 at 44104.57, Nasdaq -18.45 at 19280.31, S&P -13.18 at 5988.18

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market settled into a steady decline. The S&P 500 moved below the 6,000 level early on and continues to fall.

Weakness in the chipmaker space has contributed to downside bias. The PHLX Semiconductor Index (SOX) trades 1.0% lower with nearly every component below their prior closing levels.

The New York Fed's Survey of Consumer Expectations showed that inflation expectations decreased at the one-year, three-year, and five-year horizons. Labor market expectations also improved in October.
