[BRIEFING.COM] It has been a trend-down day so far for the major indices, which have succumbed to profit-taking interest following a four-session, post-election rally that saw the major indices gain between 3.8% and 7.7%.

The small-cap Russell 2000 (-1.8%) was the biggest mover, but today it has pivoted to being the biggest loser.

On a related note, UnitedHealth (UNH 615.00, -10.25, -1.6%) and Goldman Sachs (GS 593.08, -9.27, -1.5%) are the biggest point losers in the Dow Jones Industrial Average while 3M (MMM 128.96, -4.04, -3.0%) is the biggest percentage loser.

Honeywell (HON 230.89, +5.65, +2.5%) is the biggest gainer in terms of points and percentage following the news that activist investor Elliott Investment Management confirmed a more than $5 billion stake in the company as it pushes for a simplification of Honeywell's conglomerate structure by way of a separation of the Aerospace and Automation businesses into independent entities.

Other notable Dow gainers today include NVIDIA (NVDA 147.47, +2.21, +1.5%), Walmart (WMT 85.04, +0.83, +1.0%), Microsoft (MSFT 421.58, +3.57, +0.9%), and Amazon.com (AMZN 208.25, +1.41, +0.7%).
