Intel (INTC 23.31, +1.81, +8.4%) reported below-consensus earnings, but pleasing guidance has fueled buying interest in the name. It is among the top performers in the PHLX Semiconductor Index (SOX), which sports a 1.7% gain.
Strength in chipmakers, along with a gain in Microsoft (MSFT 414.45, +8.10, +2.0%) have boosted the information technology sector (+1.0%). Apple (AAPL 220.00, -3.95, -1.7%) continues to limit sector performance after reporting earnings.
