Financial sector lags
Dow -27.24 at 42347.12, Nasdaq +234.56 at 18650.04, S&P +36.05 at 5845.91

[BRIEFING.COM] The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped slightly below its prior close while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite maintained their positive positions. 

Bank stocks are a weak pocket in an otherwise upbeat tape. The SPDR S&P Bank ETF (KBE) shows a 1.3% decline and the SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE) sports a 1.2% decline.

Principal Fincl (PFG 80.90, -8.75, -9.8%) and Hartford Financial (HIG 112.36, -8.10, -6.7%) garnered negative responses to earnings news and are the worst performers in the S&P 500 financial sector (-0.6%), which moved into last place on the leaderboard over the last half hour.

Capital One (COF 165.59, +12.32, +8.0%) is a winning standout from the sector after reporting quarterly results.
