Small and mid cap stocks outperform

[BRIEFING.COM] The Russell 2000 (+0.4%) and S&P Mid Cap 400 (+0.5%) outperform larger cap indices at this point in the session.
The small cap index is benefitting from strength in its regional bank components. Strength in this area has also boosted the SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE), which trades 2.5% higher at a new 52-week high.
Other bank stocks are also outperforming, leading the SPDR S&P Bank ETF (KBE) to trade 2.3% higher. The financial sector sports a 1.1% gain, trading near the top of the pack among the 11 sectors.
