Weakness underneath the index level
Dow +43.77 at 36382.07, Nasdaq +104.60 at 15749.56, S&P +7.47 at 4773.65

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 is up just 0.2% after starting the session higher by 0.6%. While the Russell 2000 (+1.2%) continues to outperform, it's faced resistance at its 50-day moving average (2285).

Weakness is coming from the real estate (-2.1%), health care (-1.7%), utilities (-1.6%), materials (-1.1%), and industrials (-1.0%) sectors, which are down between 1-2%. Microsoft (MSFT 331.66, -4.68, -1.4%) is an individual drag with a 1.4% decline amid no specific news. 

After outperforming on Friday, the non-airline components within the Dow Jones Transportation Average (-1.4%) are pulling back to start the year. Names like UPS (UPS 211.04, -3.30, -1.5%), Expedia (EXPD 130.59, -3.70, -2.8%), and Union Pacific (UNP 247.16, -4.77, -1.9%) are down sharply.
