Q & AQ: As Briefing.com’s Director of Live Analysis, what trends or themes are you currently seeing in today’s market environment? |
|||||
A:
The sledding has gotten more challenging in 2014. It hasn’t been a predominately one-way market (up) like it was throughout most of 2013. There has been a lot of chop if you will as the market has had to contend with contradictory inputs pertaining to the economic outlook, the most notable of which has been the ongoing strength in longer-dated Treasury securities while the S&P 500 sits near its all-time high. There has been a lot of back and forth action amid intermittent spikes in the CBOE Volatility index, which is still nonetheless trading closer to the lows seen before the financial crisis erupted in 2008. Despite the “chop,” the S&P 500 has still managed a small gain (1.6%) for the year, which isn’t bad considering it comes on the heels of a 30% price return in 2013 that was achieved on EPS growth of just 5%. I would concur with Briefing.com Chief Market Analyst Pat O’Hare’s view that the 2013 return pulled forward a lot of the growth optimism for 2014 and that multiple expansion will be harder to come by as a result of it. Amid all of the noise, one of the more notable trends that stands out to me is that the retail investor is back and engaged. Most major retail brokers are seeing the highest levels of investing and trading activity since the dot-com bubble. That is great news, and we're happy to be able to provide those re-engaged investors with high-quality insight and ideas, while cutting through all of the noise and misinformation that's out there today. |

Q: What areas of Briefing.com are seeing the most interest from clients in this environment? |
|||||
A:
Briefing.com clients are becoming heavier users of our customizable portfolio alerts and filters, while also relying on Briefing.com’s improved market/sector summaries and market color comments. Additionally, we’ve seen great interest in our daily stream of proprietary analysis and investing ideas on our Briefing In Play Plus and Trader products, with a focus on small & mid cap growth stocks, IPO analysis and swing trading ideas. Information overload is a real problem in today’s market, so Briefing.com works hard every day to be the most reliable source for the highest quality market intelligence and ideas. |

Q: You are mainly known for your live analysis found on the Live In Play page, but you also provide in-depth analysis. What type of in-depth analysis do you cover and where can our readers find it? |
|||||
A:
On the Live In Play page, I produce a good
portion of our Floor Talk (TALKX) comments, which analyze market
fluctuations in real-time and discuss the biggest issues impacting
the market each day. I also post many of our TOPNX comments,
which alert our subscribers to major market events/news that
they could have a significant impact on the major averages.
Users can set up alerts to get these emailed to them or have
audio alerts generated so they don’t miss them.
Additionally, I contribute to our Special Reports offering which is focused on options trading activity and strategies. Those reports can be found on our Special Reports page on the Briefing In Play Plus service. Also, I contribute to various other premium reports on occasion, such as Emerging Growth (GROWX), which is managed by Jim Busch and is an extremely popular focus list of the leading small- and mid-cap stocks in the market. Emerging Growth Stocks is also part of our Briefing In Play Plus offering. Finally, I contribute to other topical reports such as the Best Ideas Focus List (IDEAS/FOCUS), which is also part of Briefing In Play Plus, in the Trading Ideas/Fundamental section. |
