Energy costs declined 1.3% in December, which is the third consecutive monthly decline. Food prices increased 0.2% in December after increasing 0.1% in both October and November.
Excluding food and energy, core CPI increased 0.1% in December, exactly what the consensus expected.
There were no notable changes in prices that led to the core CPI increase. Inflation remains tame as we head further into 2012.
