Trader Profiles
The following is a list of all of the major BriefingTrader
in-house analysts, as well as the major contributors and a
description of their respective styles.
Note: We recommend that new subscribers monitor and even
paper-trade the comments of the particular traders that mirror
their own style for a few weeks before trading. It is important to get a feel for how our analysts
think and how each individual writes.
Our Traders:
GROWX - Many traders follow the IBD 100 Index for
trading ideas, however, often times the stories behind these
companies are not well known. Traders often do not have time to
research them and many have little, if any sell side coverage.
As a result, we recently introduced a new product on BriefingTrader
where we will focus on highlighting these stories, perhaps
a few per week. We are working on creating a new tab for these
items, but in the meantime, you can find them in the archive
using the GROWX ticker as a search.
CONTX - ContrarianTrader tends to take a slightly
longer term view for his trades, often holding positions for
several days and occasionally for a few weeks. As a result, he
tends to have slightly wider risk parameters and make fewer
trades. Many of his longer term trades involve picking up a
stock after a move through an important technical level looking
for continuation or at an important level after an extended move
looking for a retracement. He usually trades with an inside
target intended to be hit within a day or two and an outside
target that could take up to a few weeks. He also provides
(usually skeptical) economic commentary on important issues as
they present themselves. He is a trader to follow if you like to
put on positions about which you have longer-term conviction and
feel comfortable holding them through pullbacks.
STOCK - StockWatch presents position and swing
trading ideas based on Briefing.com’s proprietary Emerging 50
screen. The Emerging 50 takes into account 16 separate measures
to generate a list of stocks with very strong fundamentals and
technicals, identifying dynamic, fast-growing small companies.
Subscribers can track all StockWatch ideas with the
STOCK ticker, and find a link to the most recent screens.
BLUEX - BlueChipTrader is a frequent idea generator for large-cap, very high volume names to ensure
entry and exit with ease. He typically looks for moves
of $0.50 to $3; while he suggests closing at day's end, but
will occasionally suggest holding positions overnight when the opportunity
presents itself. His comments tend to appeal to more
conservative day traders.
SCALP - ScalpTrader looks for intraday setups based on a
combination of fundamental and technical analysis. He looks for
$0.50 to $1.50 upside/downside on most ideas. As the name ScalpTrader implies, the positions he
suggests are very short-term
in nature (a few minutes to a few hours). His comments tend to
appeal to more aggressive day traders.
CHART - ChartTrader leans on charts as a primary window
to the market as he feels price action almost always tips the
market's hand before the ''Why?' hits the wires. He then turns
to fundamentals and sector/industry concerns to contextualize
the chart behavior. (To get a feel for this, you can search
under LEARN and see several of his set-ups accompanied by
explanations of his logic: KWD, AAPL, and TIE examples were
his). He is generally very selective, suggesting just a couple
trades per day, keeping a strict leash on risk and placing the
brunt of responsibility for profits on trade management. ChartTrader comes to us from several years of trading, primarily
in stocks and index and currency futures.
EVENT - Comments include covering conference calls,
trafficking flow on the site, and previewing earnings reports
and key economic data releases. The general focus is trading
commentary on key events, particularly earnings reports. Event
Trader often looks to fade exaggerated emotional reactions
triggered by the release. Earnings coverage typically includes a
detailed preview, comment on the report as it hits, and detailed
live commentary on the conference call.
BETAX - BetaTrader trades a host of price-based
technical setups that primarily involve short-term counter trend
reversals and range breakouts/breakdowns that focus on fading
extreme overbought/oversold conditions (mean reversion) or
trading with the current momentum (continuation). He looks to
identify short-term market inefficiencies by methodically
analyzing the relationships between price, volume, sentiment,
and momentum in an attempt to uncover any potential divergences
that signal a high probability entry. For examples of his recent
work, simply perform a ticker search using 'BETAX'.
Contributors:
FUNDX - FundTrader is a hedge fund trader who provides
multi-day trading ideas in volatile groups. He looks for
relative value opportunities within a sector rotation. His
suggested holding periods range from hours to weeks, depending on how the
stock is acting.
TREND - TrendTracker typically looks at the big picture
and has the years of knowledge to appreciate when a real trend
is developing. His style incorporates technical and fundamental
stories. He suggests ideas in line with the overarching market trend
and generally uses countermoves to position for when the trend
reestablishes itself, whether up or down.
