Q: Why am I getting an error
message when I log in telling me that my username and password
are already in use?
A: Someone may be sharing your password. For your security,
we restrict simultaneous logins. You will need to delete your
login session to solve this issue, which you can do by following
the "click here" link that appears within the error
message that you receive when you try to log in with multiple
sessions. Upon clicking this link it will take you to a
screen confirming that your session has been deleted.
Once you have successfully cleared your session please try
logging in again. If you continue to receive this error,
please clear out your cookies and cache. For instructions on how
to do this,

Q: I am getting a blank page when
I log in to Live
In Play, why is this happening?
A: Please click on the refresh button for Internet
Explorer users or reload for Firefox and Netscape users. If one
or two refreshes does not reload the page, please make sure to
close the browser and log back in again. It might be very
helpful to
clear the cache on
your PC.
Q: My Live In Play is
not updating, do I have to keep refreshing my browser?
A: Optimizing your browser should take care of this
problem.
instructions on how to optimize your browser.
Q: Where can I find the audio
alerts options for my Live
In Play?
A: Please click on the page references link located on
the top left corner of the
Live In Play page. Here you can edit your options
whenever you choose.
Q: When I try to access
archived information on Live In Play I get a pop-up
blocker, what should I do?
A: Pop-up ad blocking programs can affect how you view
Briefing.com's content. Please visit the
Pop-Up Blockers
section and follow the steps for the appropriate toolbar to
ensure that Briefing.com is an allowed site.
Q: Which browser versions are compatible with
Live Headlines? A: Generally
speaking, Internet Explorer 4.x or better and Netscape
Communicator 4.x or better will work. Some versions of Netscape
4.x will not support certain visual enhancements. Our testing
and user feedback have found that Microsoft Internet Explorer
5/+ and Netscape Navigator 4.5x work the best.
Q: I am not always seeing the latest headlines and the Market
Snapshot graph at the bottom of the page is often old. What's
wrong? A:
Browser settings — to ensure that you always get the latest
updates, your browser should check for the latest page every
time. In Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select
Internet Options, press the Settings button in the middle of the
first screen, under "Check for newer versions of stored pages:",
select "Every visit to the page." In Netscape, go to the
Edit menu, select Edit Preferences, check the "+" next to
Advanced, select Cache, under "Document in cache is compared to
document on network:", select "Every time."
Q: How can I be "alerted" to new headlines? A:
When a new headline arrives, the main frame of the page
refreshes and the newest headline since last refresh is shown in
red. If you have Internet Explorer 5 or better the red headline
will blink several times. There are also two alerts per
section that you can engage -- audio and visual. Click on the
speaker or eyeball icon in each section to receive audio and/or
visual alerts for that section. Each section's alerts must be
set individually. For example, if you only check the eyeball box
in the In Play section, then you will only get visual alerts for
In Play updates. You can select any combination of alerts, or
you can select alerts for all sections. The same is true of the
audio alerts. Q: I do not
hear any audio alerts, but I do hear other sounds on my system.
What's wrong? A:
If you do not hear any audio alerts (and you do hear other
sounds on your system), you may not have your browser set up to
play WAV files correctly. Please visit
Microsoft's Windows Media Player page
and install the latest version available for your operating
system.
Another possibility could be related to the Mozilla Firefox
browser application. It does not allow any sound. For more
information on Firefox, visit the website
help section.
Q: I bookmarked the page, but only got a frame that didn't
update when I retrieved the bookmark. Why? A:
Do not bookmark the page by right-clicking and adding to
favorites/bookmarks – this will only bookmark the frame rather
than the entire page, and the real-time updates will only
function if you load the entire page.
Q: Where can I get a stock quote, or chart? A:
Note the Ticker Search box in the upper right corner of the
page. In addition to offering quotes, charts, and other tools,
this box can be used to "Search Briefing.com" and the archives
by page. These searches are very powerful. Try typing in a
ticker and selecting "Briefing.com" for a sample.
Please note that search results appear in a pop-up window. If
your pop-up window appears blank or does not appear at all, you
may need to configure your firewall.
Q: I have a Mac – will
Live Headlines work? A: Sometimes.
There are still issues with certain browser versions operating
with Mac. We are working on these.
Q: I hear an annoying clicking sound whenever the page
refreshes, any way to turn it off BUT leave the rest of the
sound working for alerts and other programs? A:
Yes, if you have a Windows operating system. Do the
following: - Click the START button on your taskbar.
-
Go to "Settings" and select "Control Panel"
- Double
Click the "Sounds" icon in Control Panel
- In the
"Events" box at the top, scroll down to Windows Explorer
-
Select "Start Navigation"
- In the Sound area, there
is a drop-down box below Name:
- Click the drop-down,
go to the top of the list and select [None]
- Click
"OK". Close Control Panel.
Q: Why are some headlines displayed in gray? A:
Headlines in gray are from previous days.
Q: Is there a way to customize the audio alerts? A:
Currently, the audio alerts are not customizable, but we
hope to offer more options in the future.
Q: My entire system seems to bog down when I run the headlines
page. I always have many other applications running as well.
A:
On any system, the more applications you run, the more your
system, and specifically your memory is taxed. Based on
observations thus far, it appears that this is primarily an
issue on low-memory machines; 32 mb RAM or less. If you use many
applications alongside
Live Headlines, you should have at least 64 mb RAM, and
the more the better. We will make changes to minimize memory use
in future releases if possible.
