Briefing.com Economist Named One of Country's Top Forecasters
Tim Rogers ranks No. 6 in USA Today survey
Chicago, IL March 31, 2004 — Timothy Rogers, Chief Economist for Macroeconomic and Fed policy outlook at Briefing.com (www.briefing.com), has been named as one of the Top 10 economic forecasters for 2003 according to USA Today.
Rogers, who has been forecasting and analyzing economic, Federal Reserve, and Treasury information for 15 years, was one of 40 top national economists surveyed quarterly by USA Today last year, and was ranked number six on the paper's list. First was Allen Sinai, president of Decision Economics.
"Tim richly deserves this sort of acknowledgment," said Dick Green, founder and president of Briefing.com, the Internet's leading provider of timely and intelligent market analysis. "This is emblematic of what Briefing's about - completely independent, quality analysis."
USA Today, which has more readers than any newspaper in the country, used statistical methods to assess the economists' accuracy of the variables forecast in the surveys, scoring each on a percentage basis of how similar their quarterly predictions were to the actual outcomes for the economy.
The economists, whose identities were unknown to those gathering the data, received four scores — one for each quarterly survey — and were ranked on the average of these scores.
"This is nice recognition," Rogers said. "It underscores the approach we take at Briefing.com which is to provide a professional, objective look at market events. I am honored to be a part of such a prestigious group of participants."
Rogers joined Briefing in 2000 after serving as Chief U.S. Economist at Thompson Financial Services. He has a Masters degree in Economics, and is widely quoted in the financial press including USA Today, Bondweek and Bloomberg. He writes regularly on Briefing's Bond Market Update and Economic Insight column. He is located outside of Boston.
