The Week Ahead
The coming week is poised to be a busy one, with quarterly earnings reports from several widely held companies, an FOMC rate decision, and potentially market-moving economic releases.
The FOMC policy announcement Tuesday will be the most important event. Fed funds futures suggest the Fed will hold off on raising rates, but a slight chance is priced in that the Fed will cut rates 25 basis points.
Several items are on the Economic Calendar. The industrial production, CPI, housing starts and initial claims reports should garner the most attention.
Financial firms will be in focus next week with earnings reports from Goldman Sachs (GS) and Morgan Stanley (MS). Bellwethers FedEx (FDX), Oracle (ORCL) and Best Buy (BBY) are also confirmed to release their quarterly results. The Earnings Calendar has more information, including consensus estimates.
